I'm a record producer, recording and mastering engineer, mixer, and musician from Seattle. Since 1986 I've worked on over 600 records for bands from 14 countries on 4 continents. You have probably heard one or two of these records.
I graduated from Seattle's U of W in 1980 with a BSEE, worked for the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA for a few years, then moved back to Seattle in 1984 and started recording bands, and refuse to stop.
I was "the guy in the engine room" during the early voyages of the battleship "Grunge" in the late 80s. Many of the early releases that put Seattle label Sub Pop on the map have my name on them; Mudhoney, Nirvana, TAD, Soundgarden, L7, Mark Lanegan, Hot Hot Heat, etc. Somehow I also found time to play guitar in a band called Skin Yard; we made 5 albums between 1985 and 1992, some on a subsidiary (Cruz Records) of the legendary SST label.
Just as Skin Yard ended in 1992, Seattle music exploded worldwide, and I began producing records full time, which I am still doing, although I never entirely stopped playing in bands, as a drummer, or a bassist, or (mostly) a guitarist/vocalist. Most of my Seattle work currently takes place at a studio called Soundhouse. As of 2018 I am also doing more mixing and especially mastering.
My most recent work can always be found at the top of my chronological Production Discography, assuming I have updated it lately. Since nowadays no one gets producer credits with digital downloads, you may see quite a few records that you didn't know I worked on.
As of 2022 I am still a guitarist "in" 4 bands: Sky Cries Mary, Purple Strange, MKB Ultra and Beyond Captain Orca. All can be found on Bandcamp.
My third solo album "Permanent Fatal Error" was released in early 2006. My fourth album "Set Myself On Fire," was be released in December 2021. (Yes, some patience is required to follow my musical career.)
I continue doing 24/7 what I love most: "making" music, both other people's, and my own.
